AP Stats: An Anticipatory Set

Last year AP Stats didn't run.  This year I'm back in the game!

I'm going to make a real effort to incorporate more current events into the class.  I've done it informally before, but this year it's going to be more pronounced.  Kids will get articles early and often.

Here's two resources I'm going with on day one:
NY Times article: The Rich Drive Differently, A Study Suggests
PNAS Study: Higher social class predicts increased unethical behavior

The plan is to give them the NY Times article, read it, and respond to it in small groups.  Next they will get the actual study from PNAS (I will direct them to studies 1 & 2) and identify questions they have about the jargon.

This should serve as a basic anticipatory set for the year.  I think it could work well.

If time allows, I've also got these two:
WSJ article: ‘StarCraft’ Gameplay Boosts Mental Flexibility, Says Study
PLOS One Study: Real-Time Strategy Game Training: Emergence of a Cognitive Flexibility Trait
